We are proud to welcome Norwich based counsellor Gillian Bartlam to our talking therapy team. For the past 26 years Gillian has worked as a self-employed counsellor and counselling supervisor. To book an appointment with Gillian, please call our reception team on 01603 631900 or you can send us a message via our contact page. Gillian offers a free 20 minute session to all new clients, to discuss how she may be able to work with you and for you to decide whether Gillian is the right person for you to work with.
Gillian is also an experienced trainer – have a look at her upcoming Understanding Behaviour workshop group for counsellors, students and anyone interested in understanding behaviour here.
Gillian works with all ages, including adults and children. She has experience of working on a 1 to 1 basis with young people with drug and alcohol and dysfunctional family problems, as well as running counselling groups for sexually abused people. Her caseloads cover every area from torture, abuse, bereavement, to depression, anxiety and family problems.
Gillian has been working within several local GP Practices, promoting the benefits of counselling as an effective complement to prescribed medicine. She then works closely alongside GP’s to monitor progress. When working from surgeries Gillian only has 6 sessions with her clients to give them the tools to help themselves, whereas from The Orange Grove Clinic she will have the luxury of working much more deeply.
Another area of experience is within the Probations service, running groups and liaising with various agencies such as housing and job centres. She gave advice and guidance to offenders who want to change their lives, and the nature of this work meant Gillian was faced with a wide variety of people and cases, and had to be very adaptable with both the offenders and the methods of solving problems.
Counselling Supervisor and Trainer
In addition to the hands on work with clients, Gillian is also a trainer and educator covering short courses in life skills and counselling courses to Diploma level for W.S.C Adult Education, UEA and Cambridge University. She has run many work shops all over the UK, covering: ‘How to work with sexually abused clients’, ‘Assertiveness’, ‘Stress’, ‘Meditation and relaxation’. Gillian has spent a lot of time raising awareness through talks and publicity events to the general public, NHS Trusts and voluntary organisations.

She can’t bear injustice and prejudice and is not afraid of standing up for it.
