What is NLP?
Neuro linguistic programming is referred to as the “study of subjective experience” or “the science of excellence”. It has grown in popularity, alongside CBT since the 1970s and has many similarities in its interventions.
NLP was developed by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in the USA. They observed the best therapists in the world and discovered what patterns of thinking and language they used to get their consistent and amazing results with clients. Since that time NLP has been used successfully with improving education, sport’s, and personal development.
Neuro: refers to the mind and their senses with which we experience the world.
Linguistic: refers to our language verbal and non-verbal involved in our communication.
Programming: refers to strategies, habits or patterns that we make use of in our day to day lives.
The most important aspect of NLP is the development of a new positive attitude and accompanying resourceful states.
NLP grew out of a reaction to long term therapy and the reliance of many models of psychology and psychoanalysis that focused on problems rather than solutions.
