Midwife of the Year 2017!

Last month on May 5th, it was International Day of the Midwife 2017.  Since then the new mums of Norwich and Norfolk have been voting for this year’s ‘Norwich & Norfolk Midwife of the Year Award’, sponsored by The Orange Grove Clinic and YogaBumps

Midwife of the Year 2017

Today the Orange Grove Clinic’s director Jackie Heffer-Cooke took a luxurious hamper full of pampering goodies, some flowers and cards with the words that have been written by everyone who nominated their midwives, up to the hospital. The winner this year is Jo Knox. Jo says: “I feel overwhelmed, when I read what people said about me it made me cry! I just do my job, which is to make birthing as normalised as possible, and guide labouring women through the journey”.

Jackie says, “Jo Knox, was announced as ‘The Midwife of the Year’, purely by the amount of nominations she received and the words that were written about her. One testimonial said, ‘Jo was there every step of the way through my 4 days of labour, She’s just an amazing person with such a huge heart and big dedication to the job’.

I see around 60 pregnant women and 60 new mums every week in the classes I teach and I only ever hear great things about the midwives at the N&N. We believe midwives are unsung heroes. They play a crucial role in maternal and infant health, in all and every aspect.  They help life, enter this world, day, after day, after day. Is there a more important job? Being able to pass on so many women’s gratitude is an honour”.
