Yoga Therapy and Active Birth Workshops

Kate Coulson Yoga Therapy Instructor

Kate Coulson first discovered yoga in 2000, when she was working as a television and radio journalist for BBC Look East. By the time she had her first child in 2005 she was hooked and decided to change career path radically to focus on teaching yoga. Kate set up her company, BabyFit, the same year, to share with pregnant and postnatal mums the benefits of yoga for birth and beyond and now sees more than 120 mums and babies in Norwich each week.

Using her knowledge of yoga and childbirth, Kate runs Active Birth Workshops for couples who would like to find out how yoga can help during childbirth. Her workshops explore techniques that can help get your baby into the best possible position for birth, and positions that can be used during all stages of labour. Kate also teaches breathing techniques that will help you both cope with labour, however it happens, and explores different methods of relieving pain and tension.

Kate also teaches Yoga Therapy, after discovering what the alignment principles of Anusara Yoga can do for stubborn postural pain. Kate fell in love with Anusara Yoga in 2009 and has completed more than 400 hours of intensive training to become Norfolk’s first Anusara-Inspired yoga teacher. Working with a wide range of clients, Kate saw time and again how the simple yet powerful principles of alignment, which basically move your body towards perfect posture, helped to ease and often completely relieve nagging back, neck and shoulder pain.

Kate used the principles on herself following both a major operation and a sports injury and was so impressed with the way they enabled her to ‘fix’ her own body, she undertook further intensive training in Anusara Therapeutic Alignment so she could share this with others through Yoga Therapy.
